Methanol lambda chart

The Stoichiometric ratio mentioned for different fuels above has the simple name Lambda and is denoted by the Greek symbol λ. Figures lower than λ=1 are rich, and higher lambdas are lean. To calculate the λ, simply divide the actual AFR by the Stoichiometric AFR. The AFR of an engine can be measured by a Lambda Sensor in the exhaust gasses. Methanol: 6.4:1 Given the known stoich value of a specific fuel, we can go back to our 3 states (rich, stoichiometric, lean) The lambda value at the stoichiometric air fuel ratio for ANY fuel is always equal to a value of 1.00. The easiest way to understand this is to remember what the stoichiometric AFR actually is. Again, stoichiometric Lambda and AFR are both indicators of an engines combustion mixture. However, AFR is dependent on the type of fuel being used, while lambda is not. So what is Lambda? Lambda, which is a Greek letter demonstrated by the symbol λ, represents all fuel’s stoichiometric value as 1.00.

4 Jun 2019 Methanol as motor fuel has gained interest in recent years due to its low price, easy criteria, as seen in the chart below(2). As shown in this figure, the Flex Fuel Kit receives feedback from the ECU taken from the lambda. Methanol is an unusual fuel in that if we looked at power vs lambda, we find that there is very little drop off in power as we move rich. In fact the rich limit of methanol fuel is often enforced by the ignition system failing to ignite the fuel/air charge. Lambda was computed for the previous example of a blown methanol racing engine running mechanical fuel injection (MFI) as follows: Actual AFR = 3.4 to 1 (weight of air & fuel computed with MFI jetting calculator for the ‘best-run’ setup of the blower / fuel system combo). For a great software program try Larry Meaux's Pipe Max. His program is excellent and will provide a lot of info. Pipe Max. Back to Calculators Index These equations are for recreation only. Im not fully understanding this yet, but a chart might be what i need to finally get it. I need a chart for methanol to gasoline lambda. I still dont know how to figure what lambda or AFR to shoot for when spraying methanol injection. That's a lambda value of .796-.905, which is equivalent to a methanol (based on 6.5 AFR stoich) AFR value of 5.17-5.88. So it depends on what AFR scale you're talking about. If you want to tune to a methanol stoich value of 4:1 it would be equivalent to tuning on a gas scale with a target of ~9.0 AFR. How stoichiometric air-fuel ratio is calculated. In order to understand how the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio is calculated, we need to look at the combustion process of the fuel. Combustion is basically a chemical reaction (called oxidation) in which a fuel is mixed with oxigen and produces carbon dioxide (CO 2), water (H 2 O) and energy (heat). Take into account that, in order for the

2 Oct 2018 Air/Fuel Ratio or Lambda is a precise way of doing this. Using methanol as an example, the stoichiometric AFR is approximately 6.5 to 1. 5 Feb 2015 In the case of methanol, an air-to-fuel ratio of 4:1(4 parts air to 1 part fuel) is considered slightly on the rich side, but will allow the engine to make  Methanol, CH3OH, 6.47:1. This chart shows how different Air/Fuel ratios affect emissions, fuel economy For a racing fuel like METHANOL alcohol, the stoichiometric A/F ratio is 6.5:1. Nitromethane is very expensive and dangerous to handle. The interesting alternative to gasoline is Methanol. Methanol will make more power, typically around 10% more power than a similar engine running gasoline. Some things to consider in running methanol is your fuel system will have to be completely changed / upgraded.
