Oil and gas terms well log

Mud logs are well logs prepared by describing rock or soil cuttings brought to the surface by mud circulating in the borehole. In the oil industry they are usually prepared by a mud logging company contracted by the operating company. One parameter a typical mud log displays is the formation gas (gas units or ppm). Tests in an oil or gas well are carried out to determine its flow capacity at specific conditions of reservoir and flowing pressures. Important concepts, such as absolute open flow potential, annular pressure, critical flow rate, net gas production and water/oil ratio are covered in this discipline.

The spreadsheet locates all wells by permit number, county, location, etc. Note there are two tabs in the spreadsheet. The oil and gas industry records rock and fluid properties to find hydrocarbon zones in the geological formations intersected by a borehole. The logging procedure consists of lowering a 'logging tool' on the end of a wireline into an oil well (or hole) to measure the rock and fluid properties of the formation. ACIDIZING – a technique used to increase the flow of oil and/or gas out of a well. Hydrochloric acid is pumped into the oil-bearing rock. The acid dissolves limestone in the producing zone which increases porosity thus the oil and/or gas can flow into the well bore with less restrictions.
